About Us
Moruya is situated on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia. Its neighboring parishes are Bateman's Bay to the north and Bodalla to the south. Its is normally home to a little in excess of 10,000 people but it is a popular holiday destination for residents of Canberra and Sydney and even Victoria and population numbers expand considerably during holiday seasons. The region is very popular with retirees due to its mild climate and beautiful surroundings.
Anglicans have been worshipping in the Moruya region since 1843 (see History of St John's) and the Parish now has three centres in Moruya, Tuross Head and Tomakin (note that services in Tomakin are currently suspended). Services are also conducted in the two retirement homes in Moruya and Broulee. (see services )
The Revd Linda Chapman is to be inducted as Rector on 21 August 2011. A previous Rector, the Revd Mark Sweeney is staff chaplain to the expanding St Peter's Anglican College located at Broulee, an important part of our parish family. (see links )
Like any living entity we are constantly changing and developing. One current statement of our aim is "to do the work of God from Rosedale to Tuross" and this involves growth.
A recent development has seen the setting up of a "Parish Partnership" between the Anglican Parishes of Moruya and Southern Monaro. The aim is for the congregations of the two parishes to support each other with prayer, encouragement and communication in their shared journey. It is hoped to hold a minimum of three social gatherings per year in different locations. See stop press for details of social activities and useful links for the Southern Monaro website
Another significant development has bee a closer co-operation with Anglicare in Moruya. Anglicare has leased the old St John's Rectory and a garage has been refurbished for "Cassie's Place", a counselling facility for children who have been abused or are in other need of care.
New members and visitors are always welcome at services and other activities at any of the three Parish of Moruya centres..
Enquiries concerning weddings or baptisms should be directed to the Rector. Such enquiries should be either made directly to the Rector or through the church Office. (See contact details )
